HEMBLE's FIGURE WORKSHOP #2

Welcome back to Hemble's Figure Workshop  @ Mousedroid.com. Last week Hemble showed off his basic figure sculpting technique on his new custom Luke Skywalker based on the artwork of Ralph McQuarrie. So lets see how to finish it off and give it the "Hemble Touch"....

PIC-3 & PIC-4: With the painting I wanted to use simple but affective colours that stood out but didn't take away from the overall concept of the figure so on saying this Games workshop has a great range of colours that not only suits the roleplaying modeler but also us custom figure builders. The shirt was painted Regal Blue and the pants were painted scorched brown. Now don't get to concerned when you've stopped painting and the paint still looks glossy it will dry to a matt finish, that's one reason I use GW paints on some of my figures if you make a mistake you don't have to wait till the paint dries. Just wipe it off with a damp cloth and start over again.

PIC-5 & PIC-6: Once the shirt and pants dried I gave the shirt a drybrush of GW's Enchanted Blue I gave the shirt 3 coats to get the desired colour and effect, The pants were drybrushed with GW's Bestial brown and again 3 coats were given to I liked the look of the pants. The boots were painted with GW's Chaos Black and then drybrushed with Scorched brown and Snake Bite Letaher.

PIC-7 & PIC-8: The face mask, goggles, shoulder armour, backpack, control pad, tubing and vest section were all painted using GW's Chaos Black I gave all the above mentioned sections 3 coats except for the shoulder armour which was given 3 coats.

PICS-9, PICS-10 & PIC-11:
The face mask, goggles, backpack, control pad, tubing and shoulder armour were given dry brush of GW's Mithril Silver, certain parts of the above mentioned parts were given slightly added dry brush to enhance edges extra. In PIC-10 Luke's hair was painted with Vallejo's Saddle Brown (70940) and then dry brushed with GW's Snake Bite Leather.

PIC-12 & PIC-13: The pouches, gun holster and belt were painted with GW's Scorched Brown and then dry brushed with Snake Bite Leather, the buckle was painted with Chaos black and then painted with Mithril Silver. The saber handle and pistol were painted with Chaos Black and dry brushed with Mithril Silver. The base was covered with plaster of paris which has had fine sand added to it.

PIC-14 & PIC-15: The base was given 2 coats of Scorched Brown and left to dry. Once the base dried I gave it a layer of fine dirt and static grass I used PVA glue to hold the material to the base.

PIC-16:
once the materials dried I painted the fine dirt with Scorched Brown and the static grass was painted with Tamiya's Field Grey.

PIC-17: once the paint dried on the fine dirt. I then gave it a dry brush of Snake Bite Leather and I added artist plants over the top of the static grass using PVA glue.

PIC-18: The artist plants were given a wash of Tamiya's Dark Green and the water affect was achieved by painting a layer of Scorched Brown them a layer of Light Brown and once dried Revell Model Glue was added over the top of that.

PIC-19 & PIC-20: The finished figure was given two coats of Testors Dull Coate.

Hope you enjoyed the first part of the tutorial of how to make a Concept Luke Skywalker I had fun doing it showing you some of my techniques. More pics will be added to the Home Built Discussion Section in the Mousedroid Forums.

Cheers,
