BUILDING THE BASE
PIC - 4 You can see that I have drawn in a black texture where I want the
scenery to go the wooden base is more for decoration and holding the scenery
inplace more then anything, Then the figures and partial scenery are placed on
the wooden base to get a feel for the layout.
PIC - 5 A mix of plaster of paris, fine sand and kitty litter are all
mixed together and then dabbed onto the wooden base and spread out across the
area I marked out with the black texture, It is left to dry for 5 minutes and
the figures and partial scenery are pushed into the plaster to get a good fit
and then are taken off.
PIC - 6 Once the plaster has dried I sprayed the whole base with Tamiya
TS-1 Red Brown spray can, once the paint dried I replaced 1 figure and scenery
to make sure I still liked the position of the log.
PIC - 7 Once the paint dried I covered certain areas with PVA glue and
then dabbed the glued areas with model railway static grass, let it dry then got
rid of the excess static grass. |

PIC - 8 When the static grass has dried I gave the grass a wash of
Vallejo Dark Green I did this 3 times until I got the desired colour. Now don't
worry if you miss a spot here or there when doing the wash as it gives the grass
a more realistic look.
PIC - 9 & 10 While the static grass is drying I pulled out my plastic
fish tank plants and started going thru them and started cutting pieces off
plastic plants.
PIC - 11 Once I cut the plants I wanted I painted them using Vallejo's
Dark Green and then gave them two coats of Vallejo's Green Grey by drybrushing
the Green Grey on. |

PIC - 12 When I completely satisfied the wash had dried on the static
grass I dried brushed the grass with Vallejo's Green Grey until I got the
desired effect. I also drybrushed the dirt areas using GW's Scorched brown, and
Vallejo's Biege Brown until I got the effect I wanted.
PIC - 13 The figures and partial scenery namely the log which I got from
the garden are super glued in place. The rebel trooper that is jumping over the
log has had a pin inserted into hand by using a drill and then a hole was
drilled into the log and the excess pin from the trooper hand was inserted into
the log and superglued in place.
PIC - 14 & 15 The fish tanks plants that I did earlier are ready to go
onto the base I drilled holes were I wanted the plants to go put superglued into
the holes then inserted the plants, small railway model shrubs were then added
to the bush's and also other areas of the base. |

PIC - 16 & 17 The finished diorama, Just remember when doing any kind of
diorama you don't have to have alot going around in the diorama to get a great
looking scene which tells a story.
And you also don't have to use complete figures as you can tell by the
Stormtrooper even thou he only has he's top half on the diorama you can still
tell what has happened to him, and and the way the troopers are positioned also
helps with the story as depicted in this Diorama the Rebels are taking cover
while confronted by Stormtroopers and the dead Stormie has been shot by the
rebels.
I hope you enjoyed the tutorial for this project and you can view more pics in
the home built section of Mousedroid forums. |
