DAY 1 REPORT |

HASBRO AUSTRALIA
 |
|
Hasbro Australia is always our first stop
on the trail of Star Wars items, but when we go tot he stand this year some big
marketing demon had pushed our precious franchise of the the side and in its
place were this years juggernauts of the silver screen.. SPIDERMAN3 and
TRANSFORMERS.
The Star Wars items that were on offer did
their best to shine and glimmer as the retailer buyers toured the stands, but
alas the majority of the stock on show was mostly recently release items, but
carefully hidden amongst the fodder were two comic twin packs that immediately
caught our attention. Another interesting item that appears to be making a
local return to the stores will be the Unleashed 6" line, as we saw the first
wave of Black Stormtrooper, Obi-wan and Anakin Skywalker all in the new
cylindrical prisons. As the saying goes, if you cant beet them.. join them and
hence Darth Vader has gone over to a totally y new Darkside as he TRANSFORMS
himself into the Death Star. One point I
did discuss was the promotion of this years Vintage Line for the Coin Set
redemption. It is still under evaluation but appears it may well be under
similar terms to last years Lucas Stormtrooper redemption Offer, i.e. collect
all 5 Vintage figures LOCALLY, and redeem the stickers for the coin set. more
news o this redemption offer as it develops.
Discuss it
in our forums but keep an eye on our news page. |

Over powering not only the Hasbro stand
but just about every other distributor this year were the tow major movies, IF
you could not somehow make your toy line indirectly affiliate itself with
"transforming robot" then splash some read and blue spider webs on it. In case
you have been under a rock for the past 8 months, then prepare as Spiderman 3
and Transformers (the movie) are set to hit the theatres shortly.
Luckily Hasbro holds the licenses for both of these lines here in oz.
First up, Spiderman 3 is going to
be HUGE. Parents of kids from 3 up to 15 years old beware as there is a
product tailor just for your kid. Plush toys, action figures, hero figures,
board games, and heaps more....major retailers will floodeth over. So much so
that Marvel Legend appears to be more sideline than main line boys toys, as too
are the Fantastic 4 - Rise of the Silver Surfer movie line of collectibles. |

Once past all the spider webs, and scouts
honor of no pictures, we were ushered behind closed doors to preview the
TRANSFORMERS movie line of products. Sorry, but we swore an oath of no
pictures but we can tell you that that there are some absolutely killer figures
and toys for this franchise. Optimash Prime "More than
Meets the Fry" - killer joke and yet another re-incarnation of Mr
Potato Head. There will be toys for the little-uns (Cyber Stomping
Robots...very kewl), Optimus Prime Voice changer Helmet (much improved
electronics to the Vader helmet and even had us wanting one) plus 3 collector
lines (Voyager, Deluxe and Leader assortments)
The two must have items are
the Transformer Arm Blasters (think nerf hand cannon that transformer into
either Star Scream or Optimus Prime) and finally the pièce de résistance ...
Ultimate Bumblebee: Animatronics interactive transforming Chevrolet Camaro
Concept Car, working headlight, battle sounds, music (including Devo's "Whip
It") all bundled into the ultimate movie collectible. As Lord Vader would
say..."Impressive", darn right it was. But we do have two preview figure images
for you. |
