AUSTRALIAN TOY FAIR 2007

DAY 2 REPORT

FUNTASTIC

Yet again the folks at Funtastic granted us a tour of both their Dorcy Irwin and Funtastic product areas, and like other distributors at the fair 2007 movie merchandise was a big feature. Our first Stop...the Dorcy side of the stand.

Innovation should be Dorcy Irwin's middle name. The products on this stand were great. In past year the Robo-line has been highly successful and great sellers in stores. This year we saw some variations, HOMER-Sapien (Simpson's Robo) and Spider-sapien (Spiderman Robo) and three new twists on the line with RoboPanda, Roboquad and RoboBoa. It may be the aero-freak inside me but their were some truly brilliant RC toys on show, with our pick being the Air Rage and Blade Runners form Interactive Toy Concepts. (we can see a Micro Mosquito doing laps of the office in the near future). Also on show but still in concept/mock-up phase were products from the Xmas release movie "the Golden Compass". Next up two TV lines with the Power Ranges "Mystic Force" and Ben 10. Ben 10 looks to be a great new kids show which actually began airing this weekend on the Nine Network.

From Dorcy we jump across to teh Funtastic side of things. Alas Marvel and Lord of the Rings are not in sight but in their place are two movie lines with TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. It is apparent that the 5-15 age group target for both of these lines but they are very well made with heaps of accessories for playability. Funtastic don't forget their collector friends with new lines of Doctor Who figures and Darleks, plus a mockup of the Legendary Comic Book  Heroes (LCBH for short), which is all set to grab the market share of people left felling unfulfilled with the new Marvel Legends line and price point.

Yes, it appears the kids-focus lines make up the lion share of products this year. Oh, well more money to spend on high end statues/bust or making custom figures.
