AUSTRALIAN TOY FAIR 2007

DAY 3 REPORT

LEGO AUSTRALIA

Usually we get a bit of time to check out Lego but we are in a rush to make the flight back and hence had to rush thru the stand. But this was not one to be missed. Having been recognized in the USA by taking out Last Years Best Licensed Product at new York Toy Fair it was about time the ATA awarded some kudos to Lego and Star Wars...and 2007 was the year for it. Not only did the Lego Star Wars Trade Federation MTT play set take out Best Boys Licensed Product but it also was awarded LICENSED PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2007, and this is an understatement. The MTT has 20 battle Droids able to be deployed by the front rack and side hatches, 2 Destroyer Droids, 16 Blasters and is one impressive play set (due: Aug 07).

The Star Wars fun did not stop there as also on show was the Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive Booster Ring (Due: Aug 07), Imperial Tie Crawler (Due: TBA), and a new Sith Infiltrator (Due: TBA). No sign of the UCS Millennium Falcon, but fingers cross we should see a major retailer pick up this product this year. One interest item that was discussed was the huge success of the multi-figure battle packs of Droids and Clones. Lego was been so impressed with the sale of these sets that we will most definitely see more troop sets added to the mix.

CROFTMINSTER

Statues, busts and other fine collectibles are the main stay of the Croftminster stand. This year we were immediately assaulted by a large Clone Wars Animated Yoda, and his offsider the T800 Terminator Exoskeleton. Fans of Futurama watch out as  6 figures are also due in this year  with a get all 6 a make the Robot Devil bonus figure. Having a closer look at the stand we really didn't see any new Star Wars  product with the exception of the Music Xmas Max Rebo.

But fans can not live by Star Wars alone, so feat your eye on the Marvel Icons line of Busts and Statues. As usual at this years toy fair, you could not go anywhere without seeing Spiderman. One new line that we thought looked very nice were some high end Phantom (* Ghost who walks) collectible rings and pendants, over which was a light up Phantom bust , who's eyes glowed a eerie purple.
